24 Hours of Life: Mayflies
Mayflies spend most of their lives underwater, but when the time comes, they rise above the Tisza for a brief but spectacular moment. This event, known as the "Tiszavirágzás" or mayfly bloom, is a short yet stunning spectacle. The males emerge first, shedding their skins to become sexually mature, while the females fly above the water to mate. After mating, the females descend to lay their eggs in the riverbed. Both sexes die shortly after, their bodies providing sustenance for other creatures.
